"The safety record of the IAF's MiG-21s has raised concern in the Indian Parliament and media, leading to the aircraft sometimes being referred to in the IAF as a "flying coffin".[1][4] One source estimates that in the nine years from 1993 to 2002, the IAF lost over 100 pilots in 283 accidents.[4] During its service life, the IAF has lost at least 116 aircraft to crashes (not including those lost in combat), with 81 of those occurring since 1990.[5"

LOL! Nice one!
In all seriousness though, it is unfair to blame Mig-21 for crashes, at least for IAF. When you are still flying aircrafts manufactured 35-40 years ago, what else do you expect. You can't just keep overhauling it and increasing its airframe and engine life forever. The IAF pilots I know love Mig-21..they say that it was an incredible achievement for its time, but the times have moved on and the IAF is still stuck with it.
